Dresden S-Bahn

The Dresden S-Bahn provides commuter train services in Dresden and the surrounding area. It was established in 1973 and comprises three lines. It connects many districts of Dresden as well as Meißen, Radebeul, Pirna and the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the Dresden Airport, Freital and Tharandt.

The network is about 103 kilometers in length and has 38 stations (of which 16 are in Dresden).

Normally trains consist of an electric locomotive and up to five bi-level cars. Some stations grant direct access to the Weisseritz and Radebeul-Radeburg narrow-gauge railways. The network is the only one in Germany including a border crossing station (Schöna at the border with the Czech Republic).
